Ludhiana, June 22

Army man Swaranjit Singh, a native of Salaudi Singha village in Khanna, was killed after a vehicle carrying Army personnel fell into a gorge after being hit by avalanche in Leh. His companions were seriously injured. A pall of gloom descended on the Salaudi Singha village following the incident.

Swaranjit joined the Army in 2008. He was posted at Leh, Ladakh. Paramjit Singh, the deceased’s father, said at around 11 pm an army officer called and said Swaranjit has been martyred while serving for the country.

“Our son has been martyred but our head is still high with pride as he died for the country” inconsolable deceased ‘s father Paramjit and mother Manjit Kaur said. The deceased is survived by his parents, wife Gurpreet Kaur and two children. His younger brother is also serving in the Army.
