The Congress and CPM have asked the Centre to take opposition parties in confidence with regard to the fast deteriorating relations between India and Canada.

The CPM, in a statement, said the activities of anti-India Khalistani elements operating in Canada was a matter of serious concern and had a direct impact on national security.

Assuring the Modi government of its support on the issue, the CPM said the Government of India was duty-bound to protect the national interest for which it had the support across political parties in India.

“The allegations levelled by various official authorities of the Canadian government against India have been rejected by the Government of India,” the CPM said, adding that it would expect the Government of India to take the opposition parties into confidence on these issues including the allegation made about the role of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The Congress, in a statement, said, “It hopes and expects that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take the leaders of opposition in both Houses of Parliament, and the leaders of other parties into confidence immediately on the extremely sensitive and delicate issue of worsening India-Canada relations.”
