Karnal MC ranks third in state for self-certification of properties
The Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) has achieved the third place in Haryana for property self-certification, which aims to improve property data accuracy and limit unauthorised access to property details. Nearly 34 per cent of the properties have been self-certified by residents.
Data reveals that residents within the KMC limits have certified 57,135 of the total 1,68,341 properties in the city.
As per data, the Yamunanagar MC leads with 48.23 per cent of the properties having been self-certified, while Hisar MC limits have self-certified 42.48 per cent. With 31.57 per cent self-certification, Panipat is at the fourth place, followed by Rohtak at 30.57 per cent, Panchkula at 30.43 per cent, Gurugram at 24.17 per cent, Manesar at 22.01 per cent, Ambala at 20.20 per cent, Faridabad at 19.95 per cent and Sonepat at 18.84 per cent.
As per data of the KMC, there are 1,68,341 properties — 85,631 residential, 49,375 vacant plots, 14,628 commercial properties, 1,254 industrial, 1,340 institutional, 2,013 special category, 6,992 mix-used category and 6,108 agriculture category — in its limits. Out of these, 57,135 have been self-certified by residents. These comprise 39,970 residential, 6,003 commercial, 5,966 vacant plots, 633 industrial, 589 special category, 266 institutional, 3,692 mix-used category and 16 of agriculture category, said Gagandeep Singh, Superintendent, Tax Branch, KMC.
The authorities claimed that the self-certification process would reduce grievances related to property IDs. “Except for the property owner, no one else would be able to access or tamper with the details related to self-certification of property IDs,” said Ashok Kumar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC).
Kumar elaborated on the process, explaining that property owners must visit the property tax dues payment and no-dues certificate management system’s portal, property.ulbharyana.gov.in. Owners first register on the portal if not previously registered, then verify their property details before finalising the certification by submitting a family ID card or Aadhaar number.
Once the self-certification is completed, the property ID is secured and hidden from public view, ensuring confidentiality and limiting misuse, he added.
