In a major step to expedite the disbursement of accident claims, Karnal district is among the leading districts in linking the e-Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) portal with the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD), an initiative of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The objective of the iRAD is to improve road safety in the country with an accurate and uniform road accident data collection mechanism, involving different stakeholders — police, transport, highways and health departments. Besides, with the linking of the iRAD with e-DAR, three more departments, including courts, insurance companies and legal service authority.

The e-DAR portal was developed in consultation with insurance companies, and aims to simplify and accelerate accident compensation claims. It allows for instant access to detailed digitalised reports of road accidents, enabling authorities and insurance companies to process claims swiftly with just a few clicks.

“We have linked e-DAR with iRAD, further linking police, courts, insurance and legal service authority. It will help in timely compensation to accident victims’ families,” said Swati Gupta, District Rollout Manager, iRAD.

She maintained that the integration of e-DAR with iRAD will conduct thorough checks against fraudulent claims by cross-verification of vehicle details, accident data and FIRs.

One of the portal’s key features is the ability to geo-tag the exact accident location with a site map. This will help investigating officers in determining the cause of the accident and streamline the process of filing detailed accident reports in court, she said.

“With the new system in place, the government aims to not only reduce the filing of false claims but also ensure that genuine victims receive timely compensation,” she added.
