For the third consecutive year, Kangra district has topped the state of Himachal Pradesh in the Good Governance Index, securing the first prize and a reward of Rs 50 lakh. At a ceremony in Shimla, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa accepted the award on behalf of the district from the Chief Minister. The DC attributed this achievement to the dedication of Kangra’s officers and employees, who strive to enhance public services and meet government-set objectives.

The Good Governance Index, a state initiative, evaluates districts on governance quality through data-driven assessments. It reviews eight main categories, 19 focal points and 76 indicators, including infrastructure, transparency, accountability, human resource development, health, education, drinking water, road facilities and law and order. Kangra’s consistent performance reflects its commitment to effective governance.

Despite the achievement, DC Bairwa emphasised the need for continuous improvement, suggesting that the index provides a valuable tool for assessing governance quality. Based on its findings, the administration and various departments can further refine their operations to benefit the public.
