Juvenile among four more held in Kumbhra boy murder case

The police have arrested three youths and apprehended a juvenile in the murder case of a 17-year-old Kumbhra boy. Traffic on the Airport Road was restored this evening after the victim’s family members agreed to remove the body from the middle of the road after three days of protest.

The three suspects — Muzzaffarpur native Aman Taak, 19, Arun of Kashipur and Akash of Hardoi, 22 — were arrested from near the CRPF camp at Tilak Nagar, New Delhi. A juvenile involved in the murder has also been apprehended. All UP youths were produced in court, which sent them to police remand.

The site on Airport Road where a stabbing victim’s parents and Kumbhra residents were protesting for three days being cleared by cops.

Arun and Aman had been putting up in Sector 52 and were already booked in a rioting case at the Phase 1 police station. Akash was living as a PG in Kumbhra.

A day before, the police had arrested one Gaurav, who assisted the suspects flee the city. Kumbhra resident Damanpreet Singh was stabbed to death while Dilpreet Singh, 16, was seriously injured in an attack at Kumbhra on November 13.

Nilambari Jadale, DIG (Ropar Range), said, “Two more suspects in the case are yet to be arrested. Police teams are searching for them. The fight started over a minor provocation as Akash was hit by three youths who were on a cycle. The trio then called Damanpreet and Dilpreet for help and a verbal altercation ensued. Akash left the place but returned later with other accomplices. The duo was then stabbed with sharp weapons.”

On the complaint of the deceased’s father Baljinder Singh, a vegetable vendor, a murder and conspiracy case was registered at the Phase 8 police station. Meanwhile, the mortal remains of Damanpreet was cremated today. Dilpreet, who had sustained serious injuries, continues to be in critical condition.

Damanpreet is survived by his parents and two sisters. His family members today submitted a demand letter to the administration seeking a government job for his kin and financial assistance.
