Journos discuss responsibilities of press
A district-level programme marking National Press Day was organised today at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office under the aegis of the Department of Information and Public Relations.
The event was chaired by Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav. Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Mehra and Assistant Commissioner PP Singh were special guests at the event.
The theme suggested by the Press Council of India, “The Changing Nature of the Press”, sparked in-depth discussions among representatives of print, electronic and social media.
In his address, SP Abhishek Yadav extended greetings to media representatives on National Press Day, emphasising the press’s integral role in democracy.
He acknowledged the evolving nature of media in the context of advancements in information technology and instantaneous news dissemination.
Highlighting the challenges posed by the rapid flow of information, he underlined the importance of impartiality, credibility, fearlessness and factual accuracy as key responsibilities of media professionals.
ADC Amit Mehra described the press as both a mirror and a beacon for society. He noted that change was inevitable in any dynamic entity, including media, and stressed the need for vigilance in presenting reality to the public.
Assistant Commissioner PP Singh shared discussed the history of the Indian press and its significant role in the country’s independence movement.
Journalists Swarn Deepak Raina, Balkrishan Prashar, Hamid Khan, Shiv Sharma, Vinod Kumar, Somi Prakash Bhuveta, Hem Singh Thakur, and District Public Relations Officer Balbir Singh were among those present at the event.
