Promising unparalleled development, the BJP and Congress candidates are going full throttle to woo the voters of Shahabad Assembly segment of Kurukshetra.

‘State Development at a standstill’

The development has come to a standstill under the BJP’s rule. Unemployment, vacant posts and the harassment people are facing due to various portals are some of the key issues we have been raising.  — Ramkaran Kala, MLA

‘Residents have felt cheated’

The people of Shahabad felt cheated after they elected Ramkaran Kala as he failed to ensure development in the constituency. Drug addiction is also on the rise. — Subhash Kalsana, sitting MLA

While the BJP has fielded Subhash Kalsana, the Congress has fielded sitting MLA Ramkaran Kala from the Shahabad constituency. The candidates have been holding workers’ meeting, door-to-door campaigns and public meetings to strengthen their positions. They both will file their nominations on September 11.

BJP’s Kalsana, who visited the markets of Shahabad today, said, “The people of Shahabad felt cheated after they elected Ramkaran Kala as he failed to ensure development in the constituency. Drug addiction is on the rise in Shahabad and I will fight against it. Generating employment by getting new industries in the constituency, resolving the issue of waterlogging and ensuring development of Shahabad will be my priority. I will file my nomination papers in the presence of Chief Minister Nayab Saini.”

About the opposition from the supporters of former MLA Krishan Bedi, he said, “I have been getting support from all leaders and workers in the constituency because we all work for the party. The BJP has been getting a positive response in the field and we are confident that the BJP is going to form the government for the third time.”

MLA Ramkaran Kala, meanwhile, opened his election office today and said, “The development of Haryana has come to a standstill under the BJP’s rule. Unemployment, vacant posts and the harassment people are facing due to various portals are some of the key issues that we have been raising. We will focus on strengthening roads and infrastructure. We have been holding public meetings and making people aware of the promises of the Congress. People of Shahabad have been supporting us and we will win the seat for the Congress.”

After a section of Congress leaders and workers opposed the candidature of Kala, the candidate has started pacifying the disgruntled leaders.

He said, “Every person has the right to seek party ticket. I am grateful to the Congress leaders and workers for their support and we are confident that the Congress will form the next government in Haryana under the leadership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda. All leaders and workers will get due respect in the government.” Three candidates filed their nominations from Ladwa Assembly segment on Monday. No nomination has been received from Thanesar, Pehowa and Shahabad segments so far.

DC and district election officer Rajesh Jogpal said, “Peoples Party of India (Democratic) candidate Man Singh Chopra and two independent candidates Rajneesh Saini and Bhajan Singh have filed their nomination papers today. So far, five nominations (four from Ladwa and one from Pehowa) have been filed in the district.”
