A woman died due to Covid, while 80 persons tested positive, among them a senior health official and a pregnant lady on Saturday, a development that caused the Union Territory’s death toll rise to 21 and infection count to 1,569.

A 55-year-old coronavirus patient of Kulgam district died at Srinagar’s Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

Doctors said the woman was being treated for chest infection before her death at SKIMS.

“In the UT of J&K, 80 new positive cases have been reported since our last update yesterday; 21 from Jammu and 59 from Kashmir. Also, one Covid patient died today at SKIMS Srinagar,” read the media bulletin on novel coronavirus.

Meanwhile, 54 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals of J&K, it said.

Among the fresh positive cases are a majority of females, including a senior health official posted in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and a pregnant woman from Kariwa in south Kashmir’s Kulgam.

So far, 15 doctors, three nurses and five healthcare workers have got infected with the virus in J&K.

A majority of the cases, 36, have been reported from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, followed by Ramban 14. Anantnag six, Kulgam five, Baramulla, Pulwama, and Jammu four each, while Srinagar reported three and Bandipora, Kathua, Kishtwar and Poonch districts reported one case each.

Kashmir has reported a majority (1,330) of the cases, while Jammu has the figure of 239.

Five more test positive in Ladakh

  • Jammu: Five persons from Kargil district on Saturday tested positive for coronavirus in Ladakh, taking the tally of positive persons to 49 in Ladakh.
  • The Health Department in Leh received two positive reports of Iran returnees late on Friday who were already placed under quarantine facility at Kargil.
  • On Saturday, three positive reports were received in which two were of Iran returnees and a student who had travelled by bus from Delhi to Kargil. TNS
