J&K Police intensify crackdown on drug menace, attaches Rs 50 lakh property
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified action against the illicit drug trade in South Kashmir and attached several residential and commercial properties of people found to be involved in the illicit trade.
On Saturday, the police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district attached a single-storey residential house and a shop valued at Rs 50 lakh, belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Shabroz Ahmad Wani.
According to the police, the action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The attached properties are believed to be proceeds of crime, earned through Wani’s illicit drug trafficking activities. “He has been a prominent figure in the local narcotics trade, linked to substantial seizures of contraband substances, including Spasmoproxyvon and Codeine Phosphate,” the police said in their statement.

They said the action was part of the Anantnag police’s intensified efforts to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers, disrupt their operations, and curb the narcotics menace in the district. The police remain committed to taking stringent action against drug peddlers to ensure a drug-free and safer environment for the community.
Earlier, the Anantnag police had attached a single-storied residential house worth Rs 70 lakh belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Rafiq Ahmad Sheikh.
The police said, “Sheikh is a habitual offender with a history of involvement in multiple narcotics cases and this action underscores the Anantnag police’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and ensuring that those involved in such crimes face the full force of the law.”
“The Anantnag Police remains steadfast in its mission to combat drug abuse and trafficking, working tirelessly to safeguard the youth and protect the community from the harmful impact of narcotic drugs. “Further investigations are underway to trace other associates linked to the accused,” the police said.
It is learnt that Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital, Srinagar, which is the main treatment centre for drug addiction in the Valley, has been receiving several patients from across Jammu and Kashmir.
