J&K Police attach property of absconding accused

Jammu and Kashmir Police have attached the immovable property of an accused, who has been absconding for the past seven years, the police said on Monday.

A police spokesperson said while acting on the orders of the District Sessions Court, Kupwara, Trehgam police station attached the residential house, which belongs to accused Ghulam Mohd Khan, who is wanted in connection with a case.

“Despite repeated summons and a proclamation issued under Section 82 CrPC, the accused has evaded legal proceedings, prompting the court to authorise the attachment as a measure to compel his surrender,” the police said.

“The public is urged to cooperate with the police and provide any information regarding absconders,” the police said.

Meanwhile, Anantnag Police have attached properties worth Rs 1.5 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as “part of ongoing campaign against drug peddlers.”

Police said in a major action, they attached a single-storied residential house valued at Rs 80 lakh, belonging to Afroz Ahmad Bhat, who is a “habitual offender involved in multiple NDPS cases for his role in the illegal narcotics trade.”

In another case, police said it attached three commercial shops valued at Rs 70 lakh, owned by Peer Asif Ahmad Shah and Peer Towseef Ahmad Shah.

“Both the accused persons are under investigation for their involvement in several NDPS cases,” the police said.

According to police, these actions “highlight police’s unwavering commitment in eradicating the drug menace and dismantling the networks that perpetuate addiction.”

“The use of provisions under the NDPS Act to seize properties linked to criminal activities serves as a strong deterrent to those engaged in the illegal drug trade. Police remain steadfast in their mission to create a drug-free society and will continue to take strict measures against individuals and groups involved in narcotics trafficking,” the police said.
