JJP leader shot dead in Hansi

Hisar traders launch agitation, demand action against attackers

Less than 24 hours after a delegation of traders from across the state met CM Nayab Singh Saini expressing concern over the incidents of attacks on traders and extortion bids, JJP leader and businessman Ravinder Saini, 50, was gunned down by three armed assailants in Hansi town of Hisar district on Wednesday evening. In all, there were four assailants. One of them was waiting on the motorcycle and three approached Saini and shot him.

All the assailants arrived on one motorcycle. Saini was shot dead while he was reportedly standing outside the showroom located on the Hisar road. He was shot 3-4 times from a point-blank range. The assailants fled from the spot on the same motorcycle.

Recent firing incidents

  • On Tuesday, a delegation of traders from across the state led by BJP leader Rajiv Jain called on Chief Minister Nayab Saini and demanded action against the criminals who were targeting the traders
  • The traders also urged the state government to issue arms licences to them
  • Three incidents of extortion bids and a firing incident had happened in Hisar town in two weeks recently
  • Two incidents of firing in an attempt to extort money had also happened in Kurukshetra and Ladwa three days ago

Saini had also been provided security by the police recently after apprehension of attack on him. The police personnel deployed in his security was reportedly inside the showroom at the time of incident.

Police sources said the accused arrived on an unregistered Hero Honda motorcycle.

The police rushed to the spot after getting information about the incident and all check-posts were alerted on the inter-district borders in an attempt to track down the accused.

Shockingly, the incident happened just a day after a delegation from across the state led by BJP leader Rajiv Jain met the CM, demanding arrest of the criminals who have been targeting the traders.

Rajiv Jain told The Tribune they had demanded that the arms licences should be provided to the traders who were facing threats. They also urged the CM to tighten the grip on the criminal elements to ensure law and order in the state. Jain said the CM had assured them that he would take every step to ensure safety of the traders and law and order in the state.

The CM has also assured that he will hold a meeting of top officials to review the law and order situation. Sources said the JJP leader could have been targeted by criminals who had demanded extortion money. He also got threat to his life about a year ago. Notably, three traders of Hisar town had recently received threats from miscreants.

On June 24, three youths had fired about 30 bullets on the facade of a Mahindra showroom in Hisar. Two other traders were sent audio clips by the persons, who identified themselves as gangsters and demanded Rs 2 crore from each of the traders. Hisar traders led by the Haryana Vyapar Mandal has launched an agitation demanding police action against the criminals. They also observed a bandh in Hisar.
