Hisar, August 29

The politics of coalitions is at full flow in view of the Assembly polls. After the INLD, its breakaway faction — the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which came into existence in December 2018 after a split in the INLD due to differences between members of the Chautala family, has tied up a alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) headed by Chandershekhar Azad.

Interestingly, it’s the fourth tie-up by the JJP in its nearly five years of existence.

The JJP had joined hands with the AAP, BSP and the BJP (post-poll alliance) earlier. Dushyant’s party was extended support by AAP during the byelection in Jind Assembly segment in January 2019. Kejriwal had then attacked the BJP, Congress and INLD in a rally sharing the stage with Dushyant to canvass for JJP candidate Dijvijay Chautala.

However, the proximity between the two parties could not last longer as the JJP found a new partner – BSP in August 2019 to contest the Lok Sabha polls. But this arrangement too had fallen apart in less than a month as both parties parted ways. The JJP then contested the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2019 Haryana Assembly polls on its own. It managed to win 10 seats in the Assembly polls. As the BJP was short of majority, it entered into a post-poll alliance with the JJP. — TNS
