Japjeet Kaur, 12, recently won a gold medal in the U-14 javelin throw at the state-level Khedan Watan Punjab Dian games held in Ludhiana.

Both of Japjeet’s parents are international-level athletes. Her father, Bikramjit Singh, is an athletics coach at a sports college, while her mother, Amanpreet Kaur, is an international discus thrower.

Although Japjeet started training just two years ago, she has already won three gold medals, one silver and another bronze. She is currently training under Satnam Singh, an athletics coach at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala.

Bikramjit shared that he began taking Japjeet to the training grounds whenever he coached other athletes. “My goal was to instill a love for sports in her and as I hoped, she learnt a lot just by watching the training sessions,” he said.

Japjeet is a Class 6 student at Christ the King Convent School in Bhulana. The school’s principal, Sister Rosily and the director, Shine Scaria, congratulated the young athlete for her remarkable achievement.
