Jammu, November 21
A ‘nagar kirtan’was taken out ahead of the Gurpurb of the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev, here on Wednesday.
The procession, which was taken out from Gurdwara Yadgar, Chand Nagar, included thousands of devout Sikhs, women and children from different parts of Jammu city and its outskirts.
The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev will be celebrated on November 23.
The nagar kirtan started from Bibi Chand Kour Gurdwara and passed through Samadian Road, Vinayak Chowk, Gumat Crossing, Dogra Chowk, Hotel Asia, Green Belt, Gandhi Nagar Hospital road, Gole Market, Shivaji Chowk, Khalsa Chowk and concluded at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha, Nanak Nagar.
Scores of small tableaux moved along the procession. A large number of Hindu devotees also paid obeisance to the Guru Granth Sahib. Food stalls were set up to serve langar to the devotees.
The authorities made elaborate arrangements and traffic was also diverted on the routes where the procession had to pass.
Enlivening display of ‘gatka’ skills by Sikh youth, especially children, was highly appreciated by people. — TNS
