Two of looters’ gang land in police dragnet

The Kapurthala police claimed to have arrested two members of a looters’ gang here today. The duo was nabbed at a naka laid by the Kapurthala police, led by ASI Kewal Singh, near the Aujla crossing.

The suspects, who carried out several heists this month, have been identified as Matthu Murari Singh, a resident of Shahbajpur in Tarn Taran, and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gora, a resident of Gatta Badshah in Ferozepur.

A stolen i-20 car bearing registration number PB02CS4081 was recovered from their possession. During checking, a ‘Glock’ pistol and 2 live rounds were recovered from Matthu and a pistol and 2 live rounds were seized from Gurpreet.

A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered against the duo at the Kapurthala City police station.

During questioning, the suspects revealed that they, along with Sewak Singh, alias Mehak, a resident of Tarn Taran, formed a gang. They stole a car from Jandiala Guru on Maghi Day. A case under Section 379 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered against them in this regard at Jandiala in Amritsar on January 14.

The trio also took away Rs 41,000 and 9 bottles of liquor from a liquor shop on the Banga Road, Phagwara, at gunpoint on January 15. A case under the Arms Act in this regard was registered against them at Phagwara on January 15.

The trio also looted Rs 10,000 from Vijay Service Centre, Kala Sanghian petrol pump. A case under Sections 379-B and 34 of the IPC was registered against them at Kapurthala on January 17.

They also tried to loot a sweets shop at Rupewal. A case under Section 307 of the IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act was registered against them at the Shahkot police station.
