Hoshiarpur: The Model Town police have booked a father and son duo on the charges of fraud. Manjeet Kaur, wife of Maluk Chand, a resident of Kakkon, lodged a complaint with the police that Dilbag Rai Bagga and his son Rahul Bagga of Saraswati Vihar, Jalandhar, had got her husband to testify while taking loan from a bank. She said when the suspects did not return loan, the bank ordered attachment of her house. After registering a complaint, the police have initiated action against the suspects under Section 420 of the IPC. OC

1 killed, another hurt in accident

Hoshiarpur: A youth was killed while his friend was injured in a road accident. Surinderpal, a resident of Usman Shahid, told the Dasuya police that a vehicle hit his son Akashdeep and his friend Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lucky, a resident of Chak Allah Bakhsh, near their village. He said his son died in the accident while his friend was injured. After registering a case, the police have initiated a probe into the matter. OC

2 arrested with intoxicant powder

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested two smugglers from different places in the district and recovered intoxicant powder from them. The Mehtiana police arrested Sandeep Singh, a resident of Mana village and recovered 110 grams of intoxicant powder from him at a naka. The Garhshankar police arrested Rohit, a resident of Ghati Mohalla, Garhshankar, and recovered 82 grams of intoxicant powder from him. Separate cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against the two suspects. OC

Thieves target 4 shops, house

Hoshiarpur: On Wednesday night, thieves targeted four shops and a house at Mahimowal village and stole cash and other valuables. When the owners opened their shops in the morning, they came to know about theft. A CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced in which two thieves were seen breaking shutters of the shops with the help of cutters. The traders said they closed their shops last night and went home. When traders came on Thursday morning, they found shutters of their shops broken. Thieves also stole cash and other items from a house. The owner said his daughter’s wedding stuff was kept in the house. The loss was yet to be estimated, he said. OC

14 booked for trespass, rioting

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked 14 persons on the charge of criminal trespass, intimidation and rioting. Investigating Officer (IO) Jaspal Singh said suspects were identified as Roshan Lal, Harmesh Lal, Surinder Ram and Manna of Ramuwal village and their 10 unidentified accomplices. Hirdepal Singh of the same village told to the police that suspects barged into his fields with an intention of encroachment, used abusive language and threatened to kill him. The IO said a case had been registered against suspects.

Three arrested under NDPS Act

Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested three drug peddlers on the charge of selling intoxicant tablets. Investigating Officer (IO) Satpal said 180 intoxicant tablets were recovered from the suspects, identified as Ramandeep Singh, Manjinder Singh, alias Raju, residents of Sangowal village, and Amarjit Singh, a resident of Ganna Pind village falling under the Phillaur police station. The IO said a case under Sections 22-B, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspects. A motorcycle without a registration number on which the suspects were travelling with the contraband was impounded. OC

One booked for rash driving

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked a car driver on the charge of rash driving. Investigating Officer (IO) Balvir Chand said the suspect, was identified as Sukhraj Singh, a resident of Bii Chuharmi village. Bahadar Singh, a resident of Gandhi Chowk, Shahkot, complained to the police that the suspect was driving his car fast and negligently on January 10 and hit his motorcycle near Kutia Shahkot, injuring him seriously and damaging his two-wheeler. The IO said a case under Sections 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC had been registered against the suspect. OC
