Three killed, two injured in road mishap near Phagwara
Three members of a family were killed on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries, after a motorcycle-driven cart collided with a private bus near Jagjitpur village on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road on Saturday morning. The poor visibility caused by thick fog is believed to have caused the accident.
According to sources in the police, a family of five was traveling on the motorcycle cart to Hoshiarpur when the bus hit them. Three of the passengers, including a child, died on the spot, while two others sustained critical injuries.
The deceased were identified as Gareeb Dass (30), his mother Phoollwati (45), and his one year old son Manpreet Singh, all residents of Hoshiarpur.
Rajni, wife of Garib Dass, and Gurpreet Kaur, his daughter, sustained critical injuries. They were admitted to the Phagwara Civil Hospital, but were sent to Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital. Rampal, a relative of the victims said, “The bus appeared suddenly due to poor visibility, and the collision was unavoidable.” Preliminary findings suggested that dense fog and limited visibility were significant contributing factors to the mishap.
The incident has sparked concerns over road safety during winter and the need for stricter regulations to prevent such tragedies. Police have urged commuters to exercise caution, particularly in foggy conditions.
