Speeding truck kills medical store owner
A medical store owner, Saurav Dua, 42, lost his life in an accident near Guru Nanak Mission Chowk late Wednesday night.
Dua, a resident of Jalandhar Cantt, was struck by a speeding truck while he was returning home on his scooter. The impact was so severe that his body was torn into multiple parts and scattered across the road. The police later gathered the remains and sent these for postmortem. His last rites were performed today at the Harnamdaspur crematorium.
According to SHO Hardev Singh of Division Number-4, the accident occurred around 10:30 pm, with police control room receiving a call about the incident. Dua, who had shifted to Jalandhar Cantt with his family just six months ago from Makdoompura, was travelling from BR Ambedkar Chowk (Nakodar Chowk) towards Guru Nanak Mission Chowk when the accident took place.
The truck driver abandoned his vehicle at the scene after the collision but was apprehended by nearby residents and handed over to the police. The truck was seized and an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS based on the statements from the victim’s family and further investigation in the case was underway, said SHO Singh.
