Panic gripped Gujral Nagar here late last night after shots were fired at the residence of advocate Gurmohar Singh.

The attackers, believed to be linked to a property dispute involving an NRI case, fled the scene after firing two rounds at the lawyer’s main gate.

The police from Division Number-4 have registered a case against six persons, including a retired judge and retired tehsildar, and started investigation into the incident.

According to Gurmohar Singh, the attack is connected to a long-standing property dispute between his client Amarpreet Singh Aulakh, a Canadian resident, and NRI Balraj Pal Singh Dosanjh. He revealed that he had been representing Aulakh in the case for the past three months and received death threats a month ago, warning him to drop the case.

He also disclosed that after the attack, the assailants sent him a video showing them firing at his house and threatening further violence if he continued to represent his client.

We are analysing call data from the vicinity to trace the shooters”, said SHO Hardev Singh, while confirming that FIR had been registered against six persons under relevant sections of the BNS.

He said nothing could be revealed at this juncture as investigation was underway and both side of the story was being closely watched.

Meanwhile, former MLA Rajindra Beri, who visited the scene last night, condemned the attack and expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. He urged the police to take swift action and arrest those responsible.
