A group of cow vigilantes from Jalandhar and Kali Mata Mandir, Patiala, swooped down on a departmental store in Phagwara following information of the alleged sale of beef products. The raid took place at Social Trends Departmental Store, located near Law Gate in village Maheru, near Phagwara, on September 30 night.

During the operation, they reportedly discovered several boxes of “canned beef” at the shop, being sold to customers. Acting swiftly, the group alerted the police from Police Post, Miherru.

The police promptly arrived at the scene, seized the boxes of canned beef and arrested shop owner Nakul Dhir, a resident of Jalandhar.

A case has been registered against Dhir under the provisions of the Animals Cruelty Act and the Cow Slaughter Act. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the beef and any possible violations of state regulations.

The police have assured of strict action in the case. This incident has sparked concern in the region with local residents and officials calling for a probe into the matter.
