Republic Day: Finance Minister to unfurl Tricolour in Jalandhar

Ahead of the 75th Republic Day celebrations, a full dress rehearsal was held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium here today.
Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, who unfurled the National Flag, also inspected the parade and took a salute of the march past led by parade commander PPS Officer Damanbeer Singh. The parade comprised contingents from the ITBP, Jalandhar Police Commissionerate (Men & Women), Police Recruits Training Centre, Jahan Khelan, Punjab Home Guards, NCC/Scouts (Boys and Girls), DSSD Sodal Road, Government Girls SS School, Adarsh Nagar, Lyallpur Khalsa SS School (Boys), Lyallpur Khalsa High School (Girls) and a CRPF band.
Students of SD College, Red Cross School for Deaf and Dumb, KMV College, SD Phularwan Girls SS School and Police DAV School presented cultural items depicting patriotism during the event.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal held detailed discussions with officials of the civil and police administration and gave necessary directions to ensure smooth conduct of the event on January 26.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema will unfurl the Tricolour at the R-Day event in Jalandhar on Friday. The DC said elaborate arrangements for security, traffic, parking and others must be meticulously planned and executed during the January 26 event.
Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner Major Dr Amit Mahajan and heads of various departments were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the district administration conducted a full dress rehearsal at Guru Nanak Stadium in Kapurthala.
SDM Lal Vishwas Bains inspected the parade and took salute of the march past. SP Tejbir Singh Hundal and parade commander DSP Jaspreet Singh were also present along with him.
Various contingents, including Punjab Police (Men and Women), Punjab Home Guards, NCC (Boys and Girls), students of School of Eminence, Sainik School, Government Senior Secondary School (Randhir School), and Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia College, participated in the march past. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hindu Putri Pathshala School, Punjab Police and the band of MGN School also participated. After inspecting the parade, SDM Lal Vishwas Bains took a salute of the march past.
Shabad was recited by girl students of Government Senior Secondary School, Ghantaghar. Students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya performed Punjabi folk dance Sammi, Hindu Kanya Collegiate School students performed a group song and Government Senior Secondary School (Ghantaghar) students performed Punjabi folk dance giddha.
SDM Lal Vishwas Bains exhorted officials of all the departments to celebrate Republic Day with enthusiasm. He said duties should be discharged with due diligence so that the district-level event was carried out in a smooth manner.
