IK Gujral Punjab Technical University teachers submitted a letter to the Governor and Minister of Technical Education regarding non-participation in additional duties if the demand for implementation of revised pay scales and promotions are not met by September 30. Teachers of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University are protesting since four days.

Dr Dinesh Gupta, president of teachers association, wrote a letter to the Governor and Minister of Technical Education regarding the non-implementation of revised pay scales and promotions. He apprised them of the fact that these matters have been brought to the Punjab Government and university administration’s attention multiple times over the past several months, yet no concrete steps have been taken to address them.

He also stated that the university teachers were deeply committed to their responsibilities and had consistently performed the teaching and additional duties with diligence. However, the delay in addressing their legitimate demands had caused widespread dissatisfaction among the teaching staff.

He also expressed disappointment that pay scales had been implemented for 80 per cent of the staff of the university. Reiterating the issue raised yesterday, the teachers said pay scales were implemented in a discriminatory manner to the officials of the university leaving out teachers despite the orders of the board of governors. Even the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller of Examination and other officers enjoying UGC scales have been granted these scales in anticipation of government notification.

He further expressed concerns on teachers being denied their just right of promotion illegally by the administration.

The letter also stated that if the revised pay scales and pending promotions are not implemented by September 30, the teaching staff will withdraw from any additional duties beyond the regular teaching responsibilities.
