Poll to be held for 546 sarpanches, 3,180 panches
The Kapurthala administration is all set for the smooth conduct of election for 546 panchayats as the nomination process will start from tomorrow.
DC Amit Kumar Panchal said, “All arrangements have been made for the election of 546 sarpanches and 3,180 panches in free and fair manner.” He also said the administration had deputed 70 returning officers to receive the nomination papers. Nominations will take place till October 4, followed by scrutiny of nomination on October 5 and withdrawal on October 7.
The voting will take place on October 15 and the counting will be done the same day. The time for nominations will be from 11 am to 3 pm. The DC said 3,91,734 voters would take part in the democratic process at 661 polling stations, comprising 2,00,741 male and 1,90,984 female voters. He also said out of 546 panchayats, 109 have been reserved for SCs, 109 for SC women, 164 for general category women and 164 for general category candidates.
He also said BDPO offices in all blocks had been asked to set up help desks to facilitate people for election-related matters so that they should witness hassle-free process. Urging the people to participate in large numbers in the election process, the DC said, “All eligible voters must perform their democratic duty to strengthen the democracy at the grassroot level.”
