Police seize 300 grams of heroin, arrest three near Sutlej bridge
In a major success against drug trafficking, Jalandhar rural police apprehended three individuals involved in smuggling of narcotics, seizing 300 grams of heroin during a special operation conducted at a checkpoint near the Sutlej bridge in Phillaur. The operation also led to the confiscation of a motorcycle used by the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vinay Pratap Singh alias Vinay, a resident of Talwandi Kalan under Ladowal police station in Ludhiana; Vishal Singh alias Shalu, a resident of Rorawala under Gharinda police station in Amritsar; and Jagdish Singh alias Dishi, from the same area.
SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the operation was conducted under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and Sarwan Singh Ball, DSP, Phillaur sub-division.
At the check-point on Sutlej bridge, a team led by Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO, Phillaur, intercepted a motorcycle with four individuals. One of the suspects managed to flee before reaching the check-point, while the other three were apprehended. A search of the suspects led to the recovery of 300 grams of heroin.
Following the arrest, an FIR (No. 298 dated 6.11.2024) was registered under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act at Phillaur police station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused had been bringing heroin from Boparai village in Amritsar district and supplying it to customers in Talwandi Kalan, Ludhiana and Phillaur areas. Notably, Vishal Singh alias Shalu has a previous case involving half a kilogram of heroin registered in Amritsar district.
The arrested individuals are now in police custody and further investigations are underway to track down their absconding accomplice, identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Balwinder Singh, a resident of Talwandi Kalan, Ludhiana.
The arrested accused will be produced in a local court and their remand will be taken to check their forward and backward linkages.
Police teams are conducting raids to apprehend him and dismantle the network responsible for the drug supply in the region.
