Two days after the father-son duo became the victims of a midnight car race on Mall Road, the Commissionerate Police conducted a traffic enforcement drive to enhance road safety and curb violations.
As many as 154 challans were issued and 33 vehicles were impounded during a massive drive. Nakabandi and checks were conducted at sensitive points, markets and other areas with a high footfall. Patrolling was conducted in markets, crowded places and shopping malls.
In all, 530 vehicles were inspected for compliance with the traffic laws and 33 vehicles were impounded as the drivers were not able to produce proper documents. While challaning 154 motorists, the violations, which came to the fore, included triple riding on motorcycles, use of black films on car windows, underage driving and no verification of vehicle authenticity via Vahan mobile app.
For the drive, teams from police stations across Jalandhar city coordinated under their respective ACPs for the enforcement. The Emergency Response System team assisted with rapid response and on-ground operations.
Senior officials said the week-long collaborative drive was expected to bring down crime cases, make streets safer and help improve road safety.
