On the third day of the indefinite strike called by the Federation of Arhtiya Associations of Punjab, all work in grain markets across the state remained completely halted. Traders and clerks protested at the main gate of the New Grain Market on Hoshiarpur Road from 10 am to 2 pm.

To show solidarity with protesting traders, Phagwara MLA and District Congress Committee president Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal visited the protest site. He expressed his support for arhtiyas’ demands and assured them that he would make every possible effort to engage with the Punjab Government to get their legitimate issues resolved. During MLA’s visit, traders handed over the memorandum to him.

District Arhtiya Association president Naresh Bhardwaj thanked Dhaliwal for extending support and expressed confidence that the government would eventually concede to traders’ demands. He said a meeting of traders, under the leadership of Federation of Arhtiya Association president Vijay Kalra and Ravinder Cheema, would soon be convened to formulate a strategy to intensify the movement.
