Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a man for dowry harassment. Investigating Officer Buta Ram said the accused has been identified as Jatinder Singh, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Phagwara. Jatinder’s wife Monika, a resident of Talwandi Sangherra village, had complained to the police that her husband and mother-in-law harassed her for bringing more dowry and mentally tortured her. A case was registered against them. oc

Villager held for kidnapping

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have arrested a villager on the charges of kidnapping a minor and criminal conspiracy. Investigating Officer Jaspal Singh said the accused have been identified as Malkit Singh, a resident of Gaunsu Wal village. A case under Sections 137(2), 96 and 61(2) of the BNS was registered against the accused and others. oc

Gang of women thieves busted

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have arrested four migrant women on the charges of stealing items from devotees in religious places. The accused have been identified as Vinod, Lakshmi, Sunita and Baby of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan. Sandesh Kumarof Rattan Nagar (Patiala) complained to the police that he came to Divaya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan with his family on July 21 to pay obeisance on Guru Purnima. He found his phone was missing. He said a gang of women thieves was active inside and stole devotees’ phones, purses and ornaments. oc

Two held for bike theft

Phagwara: The police arrested two persons for vehicle theft and recovered a bike bearing the registration number PB-36H-8646 from his possession on Monday night. The accused have been identified as Harpreet Singh of village Masani near Goraya and Jaskaran Singh of village Lakhpur near Phagwara. The accused were nabbed at a check-point near Basra Palace in Phagwara, said Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti. A case under Section 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against them. oc

Bike stolen from Haveli

Phagwara: A motorcycle bearing the registration number PB-65Y-1447 was found stolen from near Haveli near Phagwara on Monday night. The bike owner Harneik Singh of Fatehgarh Churian (Batala) told the police that he went inside the Haveli for food after parking his bike outside but found it stolen when he returned. The police have registered a case under Section 303(2) of the BNS. oc

Centre’s decision on RSS hailed

Phagwara: BJP leader Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal today welcomed the Union Government’s decision to lift the ban on government employees participating in activities of the RSS. Grewal praised the RSS as a patriotic and cultural organisation.
