Paddy procurement in Kapurthala exceeds 75% of target, says DC

Over Rs 1,200 cr paid to farmers for grains

In Kapurthala district, paddy procurement has surpassed 75 per cent of the set target of 760,983 MT for the current season. As of yesterday, a total of 570,140 MT of paddy has been procured from the 574,735 MT that arrived at the 78 grain markets.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal reported the procurement process is progressing well, aided by ongoing visits from Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officials from the Mandi Board, Food and Civil Supplies Department and various procurement agencies. He noted that approximately 25,000 MT of paddy are being purchased daily, with lifting rates between 23,000 and 25,000 MT per day.

Panchal also emphasised timely payments are being ensured for the purchased paddy, with Rs 1,220.8 crore already disbursed to farmers.

The leading government agency in procurement, PUNGRAIN, has acquired 207,977 MT (36 per cent). Following this, Markfed has procured 178,120 MT (31 per cent), PUNSUP 124,880 MT (22 per cent), and the Punjab State Warehouse Corporation 58,293 MT (10 per cent).

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to continue their visits to the mandis as the procurement process nears completion, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
