Over 54K cases disposed of at Lok Adalats
The District Legal Services Authority organised Lok Adalats in Jalandhar, Nakodar and Phillaur here on Saturday.
A total of 56,025 pre-litigative and pending criminal compoundable offences, traffic challans, Negotiable Instruments Act cases under Section-138, bank recovery, MACT cases, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, land acquisition cases, electricity and water bills (excluding non-compoundable theft cases), service matters relating to pay and allowances and retiral benefits, revenue cases and other civil cases were taken up.
As many as 19 Benches were constituted at the district headquarters, which were presided over by the judicial officers at Jalandhar. Besides, four Benches at Phillaur and Nakodar sub-divisions were also constituted. These were presided over by the judicial officers of Nakodar and Phillaur.
Of the total 56,025 cases, 54,674 were disposed of at the Lok Adalats by virtue of compromise. An award of Rs 34,91,25,901 was passed by different Benches.
Rahul Kumar, CJM-cum-Secretary DLSA, said Lok Adalats were organised from time to time for disposal of pending and pre-litigative cases by way of compromise. He said the next Lok Adalat would be held on March 8, 2025.
On the occasion, an awareness programme for law students of CT Institute of Law was also held at ADR Centre, Jalandhar. Rahul Kumar, CJM-cum-Secretary DLSA, Jalandhar, asked the students to create awareness among the masses about the drug menace.
