Jalandhar, March 2

Pushpa Gujral Science City hosted a vibrant flower show with over 100 varieties of flowers on display here today.

The event, which included competitions such as potted flower, flower arrangement, flower rangoli and painting, provided a platform for participants to display their creativity and horticultural skills. Pirtpal Singh, former Chief Executive Officer of Defence Estates, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, was the chief guest present on the occasion.

In his address, Singh said: “Flower shows contribute towards a joyful way to celebrate the incredible world of plants, learn about their significance and encourage a sense of responsibility towards preserving the beauty and balance of our natural environment”. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, said the annual flower show was a celebration of the floral biodiversity of the region. He highlighted the integral role of flower diversity in the health and functioning of ecosystems. He said flowers attract a diverse range of pollinators, including bees, butterflies, birds and insects, thus supporting various species throughout their life cycles.

Grover stressed the importance of conserving and promoting flower diversity for maintaining a balanced and sustainable environment.

Results of competitions

Painting: Jasmeen from St Mary Convent School and Astha from St Joseph School, Jalandhar, bagged first and second spots, respectably

Rangoli: Neelam Arora and Arshdeep from DAV Model School, Kapurthala, won first and second prize, respectably

General Public Asters: Pushpa Gujral Science City bagged first position and Miss Rohini, Jalandhar, bagged second spot
