Continuing with its drive against drug smuggling, the Jalandhar (Rural) police achieved another success with the arrest of a drug peddler and recovery of 480 grams of opium concealed in a specially modified scooter compartment. The arrested suspect was identified as Tajinderpal Singh, alias Teji, a resident of Ward No. 7, Lohian Khas. The police also impounded his white TVS Jupiter scooter (bearing registration number PB08-DL-8723) that was used to ferry the contraband.

SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said following a tip-off, a police team from the Lohian Khas police station led by SHO Yadwinder Singh laid a naka in the area under their jurisdiction. He said, “During checking, the police team intercepted a scooter. A thorough search of the two-wheeler led to the recovery of opium hidden in a modified compartment specially designed for drug smuggling.” He said a case was registered at the Lohian Khas police station against the suspect. — OC
