No shortage of DAP fertiliser in dist, says DC Himanshu Aggarwal
Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal on Friday said that there is no shortage of DAP fertiliser in the district. He said farmers will not face any scarcity of the fertiliser for wheat sowing during the Rabi season as there is a steady supply of the required fertiliser.
Dr. Aggarwal shared that as of November 1, 1,015 tonnes of DAP fertilizer is available in the district, with 500 tonnes allocated to cooperative societies and 515 tons to private firms. He suggested that farmers can also consider using alternative phosphatic fertilizers for wheat sowing instead of DAP.
Dr Aggarwal said as alternatives, fertilizers like triple super phosphate, NPK and single super phosphate can be used in line with the recommendations from the Punjab Agriculture Department. He noted that these fertilizers are beneficial for both crop yield and soil health. Three shipments of triple super phosphate have already arrived in the district as an alternative to DAP. Emphasising that DAP supply will be ensured based on seasonal demand, he assured the farmers that there is no need for concern.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that strict monitoring is being conducted to prevent fertiliser hoarding and black marketing in the district. Appropriate action will be taken against those found indulging in such practices and relevant instructions have already been issued to the authorities concerned.
Agriculture Officer Dr Surjeet Singh said alternative fertilisers, such as triple super phosphate (0:46:0), NPK (12:32:16), single super phosphate, NPK (16:16:16) and NPK (20:20:13) are highly effective for crops and help in replenishing essential nutrients in the soil.
