No polling tents within 200-m radius of booths, says Kapurthala DC

Announces October 15 as ‘dry days’ in villages going to the polls

With a view to ensuring a peaceful conduct of the gram panchayat elections in Kapurthala district, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Amit Kumar Panchal has issued orders that no candidates/political party would be allowed to install polling booth/tents in a 200-metre radius of polling stations in view of voting on October 15.

The DC said: “The district administration has made adequate arrangements for a smooth conduct of the polls in the district and any anti-social elements will be dealt with strictly”.

He said candidates or their supporters would not be allowed to campaign within a 200-metre radius of polling stations. Besides, no cell phone/wireless set/mobile would be allowed in a 100-metre radius of polling stations, except for the polling duty staff/ security personnel/observers. Private vehicles will also not be allowed to enter in the 200 meter radius, he added.

The DC also announced a ‘dry day’ in the villages where polling was to be held on October 15.

“Dry day will be applicable from October 15 to October 16 till 10 am,” the DC said.

Under this liquor shops/ahatas in villages, where voting will take place, will remain closed. Besides, restaurants/hotels/clubs etc would not serve liquor or store it.
