‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ kicks off in Nawanshahr

In line with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s directives, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched its first activity ahead of the country’s 78th Independence Day. The event took place at Doaba Sikh National Senior Secondary School in Nawanshahr, where a large number of teachers and students gathered to take a solemn pledge to stay away from drugs and promote a drug-free environment.
The programme, presided over by Parvinder Singh Rana, principal of the school, was conducted under the leadership of Shiv Dular Singh Dhillon (who retired as an IAS), secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, Chandigarh. As part of the nationwide campaign, participants vowed to contribute towards making the district, the state, and ultimately the country, free from the scourge of drugs.
Chaman Singh, Project Director of the Red Cross in Nawanshahr, addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of a collective effort in combating drug addiction. He highlighted the various activities planned from August 10 to 15 as part of the campaign. Chaman Singh reminded the audience that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was inaugurated on August 15, 2020, sharing that this year’s theme is ‘Bharat Vikas ka Mantra, Bharat ho Nashe se Swatantra’ (The Mantra for India’s Progress: Freedom from Drugs).
In his speech, Principal Parvinder Singh Rana urged the students to stay vigilant against the dangers of drug use, while Jaskaran Singh, a member of the school staff, efficiently managed the proceedings as the event’s secretary. The event concluded with Jaskaran Singh expressing gratitude to the Red Cross De-addiction Centre team for their support.
The event saw active participation from school staff, students and members of various social organisations, all united in their resolve to support a drug-free India.
