Dr Ravjot Singh, the Local Government Minister, visited Sultanpur Lodhi on Thursday to review the ongoing development projects in preparation for the Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev. He instructed officials to ensure the necessary projects were completed by November 10.
Rajya Sabha member Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal and Aam Aadmi Party leader Sajjan Singh Cheema were present, among other administrative officials. Dr Ravjot Singh directed officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Sewerage Board to prioritise road repairs and infrastructure development projects.
He emphasised the roads leading to Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib and other key Gurdwaras must be ready before the Nagar Kirtan procession, ensuring the town is well-prepared for the large influx of devotees attending Gurupurb celebrations.
The Cabinet Minister said the ‘Smart City’ project, aimed at transforming Sultanpur Lodhi into a hub of religious tourism, was being monitored too, adding that efforts were being made to complete the projects in time.
Dr Singh urged district administration officials to accelerate the work and improve coordination between the various departments involved, including public works, sewerage, water supply, and the municipal council, to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Earlier in the day, the minister reviewed the installation of interlock tiles on the main roads of Sultanpur Lodhi.
Other officials present at the meeting included District Planning Board Chairperson Lalit Saklani, Kapurthala Improvement Trust Chairman Gurpal Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Navneet Kaur Ball, SDM Aparna and representatives from various departments.
