The Congress has ramped up its preparations for the upcoming municipal corporation elections, with a key screening committee meeting scheduled to be held on December 8 in Phagwara. Today, a meeting of party workers was held at the residence of Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, where workers were encouraged to actively participate in the electoral process. The emphasis was on mobilising efforts to secure a majority in the municipal corporation.

Block Congress president Taranjit Singh Bunty Walia, Munish Prabhakar, and women’s wing president Rani Ranjit Kaur addressed the gathering, stating that multiple candidates from each ward have expressed their interest in contesting. The December 8 meeting will feature interactions between party observers and local workers to assess potential candidates. Observers Alok Sharma, Arun Choudhary, Sukhpal Singh Bhullar, Navtej Singh Cheema, and Angad Saini are set to attend.

Workers were urged to submit their applications for consideration, with party leaders stressing unity and collective efforts to ensure maximum seat wins. “Once candidates are finalised, everyone must work together, setting aside differences, to strengthen the party’s position,” they said.
