Man shot at in Phillaur
Jalandhar, February 26
A person was injured after a group of assailants shot at him in Phillaur here today. The victim has been identified as Sanju Masih, a resident of Mittha Khuh at Phillaur in Jalandhar. The police have arrested a person in this regard.
Sanju was returning after the hearing of a case in a court with his cousin Vijay Masih when his neighbour and rival Shiva Masih began shooting at them. Vijay Masih is a resident of Malah Mohalla, Ucchi Ghati, in Phillaur.
A case has been registered against three persons — Shiva Masih and Roshi, residents of Mittha Khuh in Phillaur, and Jatin, a resident of Ganna Pind in Phillaur. The trio have been booked under Sections 307, 33 and 341 of the IPC and Sections 148 and 149 of the Arms Act.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of Vijay Masih.
The police said an old dispute between Sanju and Shiva Masih was the reason behind the attack. As per the complaint, the victim alleged that during their return from court, Shiva Masih spotted them and started firing. He also alleged that Shiva, along with his associates, was present at the spot.
As per preliminary reports, Sanju Masih suffered bullet injury on the right side of his abdomen. He was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Phillaur. Owing to his serious condition, he was referred to the DMC&H, Ludhiana.
Phillaur SHO Neeraj Kumar said, “A person has been arrested. There was an old rivalry between Shiva and Sanju groups. The police are on the lookout for other two accused, who will be arrested soon.”
