Make students aware of drugs’ ill-effects, Education Dept told
The Moga district-level committee under the Narco Coordination Centre held a meeting here today to review steps taken to curb drug menace in the district. Following this, the district administration and police asked the Education Department to create awareness on the ill-effects of drugs in schools and colleges.
Moga DC Vishesh Sarangal said stage plays, dramas, skits or other activities must be organised to sensitise young minds about drugs. He ordered the Health Department to organise medical camps in drug hotspots and disseminate information on the harmful effects of drugs, OOAT and rehab centres. He said this drive against drugs must be converted into mass mobilisation, which could be instrumental in eliminating the drugs from the state.
He claimed the drug supply line had already been snapped and now it was time when the demand for the drug needed to be checked through wholehearted support of people under this drive.
The DC further said the police had already launched a major crackdown on the drug peddlers due to which some of them were behind the bars. He said the people of Punjab had successfully fought terrorism and it was time for all to come together once again to build sustained pressure against drugs to fight the menace.
The DC also called upon ADC and SDMs to ensure that regular awareness drives be conducted in their jurisdictions.
