Maharashtra win first match in league stage

In the ongoing 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship, teams from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Bihar won their respective league matches and secured three points each. As many as six matches of the league round were played on the fourth day of the championship organised by Hockey Punjab at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar.

In the first match, Uttarakhand defeated Chhattisgarh by a margin of 7-5. On behalf of the winning team, Arpit Kohli scored one goal, Naveen Prasad scored two goals, Deepak Singh scored two goals, Beast Mahindra scored one goal and Suraj Gupta scored one goal. While Mohit Nayak from Chhattisgarh scored three goals, Pakash Patel and Vishnu Yadav scored one goal each.

In the second match, Uttar Pradesh defeated Puducherry by a margin of 6-1. For the winning team, Triloki scored two goals, Ashu Maurya one, Siddhant Singh one and Khan Fahad scored two goals. Darshan scored a goal for Puducherry.

In the third match, Maharashtra defeated Goa by a big margin of 17-1. This is Maharashtra’s first win in the league round. In the fourth match, Manipur defeated Himachal Pradesh by a margin of 2-0 to secure three points and keep their hopes alive for the quarter-finals. In the 44th and 45th minutes of the game, Manipur scored two consecutive goals to win the match. N Amarjit Singh and Shusheel scored one goal each for Manipur.

In the fifth match, Jharkhand won three points by defeating Bengal by a margin of 5-1. For the winning team, Roshan scored two goals, Deepak Sorang, Abhishek and S Guria scored one goal each. In the sixth match, Bihar defeated Telangana by 3-1.
