Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh teams enter hockey championship quarterfinals
Teams from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh entered the quarterfinals of the 14th Hockey India Junior National Men’s Championship today. The matches are being organised at Surjit Hockey stadium. In today’s final match, Punjab team won the first place in the pool by defeating Bihar 6-1.
Punjab team put up a brilliant performance against Bihar. Bihar dominated the first quarter of the game, after which Punjab did not let Bihar back in the match and won by scoring six consecutive goals. Ajit Kumar of Bihar scored a goal in the fourth minute of the game. After this, Punjab’s German Singh, Mandeep Singh, captain Ujwal Singh scored two goals each, Manrup Singh scored one goal and Japaneet Singh scored one goal.
In the first match, Madhya Pradesh defeated Uttarakhand 6-0 and entered the quarterfinals. In the winning team, Zameer Muhammad scored two goals, Muhammad Anas, Ali Ahmed, Viveka Paul and Tushar Parmar scored two.
In the second match, Uttar Pradesh defeated last year’s champion Chandigarh 8-0 to enter the quarterfinals. Ajit Yadav made a hat-trick by scoring three goals while Khan Fahad scored two, Gorav Yadav scored one, Suraj Pal scored one and Anand Kumar scored one.
