Phagwara: In a shocking incident, a Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) resident Anushka Aggarwal reportedly ended her life by jumping from the sixth floor of a girls hostel on the Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus on Monday night. The deceased was pursuing MBA course at the LPU. Phagwara SDM Jashanjit Singh along with DSP Bharat Bhushan and SHO Balwinder Singh Bhullar rushed to the spot. The police handed over body of the deceased to her family members who arrived in Phagwara on Tuesday morning.

One held for burning stubble

Nurmahal: The Bilga police have arrested a villager for violating an order duly promulgated by a public servant by burning paddy stubble in his fields. Investigating Officer (IO) Avtar Lal said the suspect was identified as Mohinder Singh, a resident of Talwann village. The IO said the police received a WhatsApp image of crop residue set on fire at fields in Talwann village on October 3, but could not verify the spot due to darkness. The police visited the field next day with a cluster officer to verify the incident. The IO said a case under Section 223 of the BNS was registered against the suspect who was released on bail. oc

One booked for violating ban

Shahkot: The Shahkot police have booked Balaka Singh, a resident of Raunta village, for the violation of ban on burning paddy stubble in his fields on a report filed by circle revenue patwari. Investigating officer (IO) Sulindar Singh said the police also booked another unidentified villager for setting crop residue on fire in fields of Thamuwal village.

One booked for negligence

Nakodar: The Nakodar Sadar police have booked an unidentified SUV driver on the charge of causing death by negligence. Lovepreet, a resident of Billa Nawab village, complained to the police that his father Bhinda and mother Jasveer Kaur were going to Nakodar on October 3 evening when an unidentified SUV hit them leaving them seriously injured. Lovepreet said he rushed his parents to the Nakodar Civil Hospital where doctors declared his father brought dead. Investigating Officer Janak Raj said a case under Sections 106, 125-B, 128-A, 281 and 324 (4) of the BNS was registered against an unidentified SUV driver.

Four booked for assaulting man

Nakodar: The Mehatpur police have booked four villagers on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. Investigating Officer (IO) Jaspal Singh said the suspects were identified as Prince Sahota, Aman Sahota, Manni and JD, all residents of Aadramann village. Rohin Singh, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the suspects waylaid and attacked him with weapons. The complainant said the suspects injured and threatened him on September 29. The IO said a case under Sections 115, 126(2) , 324(4), 351(2) and 3(5) of the BNS was registered against the four suspects.
