Jalandhar: Kingpin of highway robbers’ gang in police dragnet

The kingpin of a gang of highway robbers, who had been terrorising travellers by pulling off loot and robberies at gunpoint, was arrested by the Jalandhar rural police.
The kingpin has been identified as Ajay Pal Singh, alias Raja Ambarsariya. Four of his associates and gang members were apprehended on January 10.
Nine cases already registered
The police revealed that nine cases were registered against Ajay Pal at two police stations in the state. He was wanted in six of these cases. After his arrest, two more theft cases were traced. Ajay Pal, alias Raja Ambarsariya, would be presented in the court.
The police recovered 400 grams of heroin, a country-made pistol with magazines and live rounds and stolen goods such as a motorbike, two cars, a gold chain and a mobile phone from his possession.
Jalandhar (Rural) SSP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said during patrolling on the Adda Kishangarh-Daulatpur village road yesterday, a team of the Jalandhar rural police and the CIA staff spotted a man standing on the roadside with a motorcycle without number plate and a bag. On being questioned, the man revealed his name as Ajay Pal Singh, a resident of Lahori Mal village in Amritsar. During search, the police recovered 400 grams of heroin, a country-made pistol with two magazines and two live rounds from him.
He was arrested and a case was registered against him under Sections 21-C, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Adampur police station yesterday.
The SSP said during questioning, the suspect shared that he had been indulging in heroin business by buying the drug from Gurinder Singh, alias Lallu, a resident of Lahori Mal village. He also revealed that he stole cars and used them to supply drugs.
Ajay Pal Singh and Gulab Singh, also residents of Lahori Mal in Amritsar, had stolen a Brezza car from the BSF Chowk in Jalandhar on the intervening night of January 4 and 5. A case regarding is this regard was registered at the New Baradari police station in Jalandhar.
Ajay also revealed that on the intervening night of January 8 and 9, he, along with his associates Satnam Singh, alias Shamu, Satinder Singh, alias Sunny, Rahul, alias Chuha, and Shiva, who have already been arrested, also carried out two crimes at gunpoint in Adampur.
While Ajay’s associates were traced and arrested on January 10, Ajay committed a number of crimes since then.
On the intervening night of January 12 and 13, Ajay Pal stole a Kia Sonet car (UP-15-DM-6051) from Ambassador Hotel near BSF Chowk at gunpoint. A case in this regard was registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the New Baradari police station on January 13.
Further, on the intervening night of January 14 and 15, Ajay Pal stole a Swift car from the Division Number B police station, Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar, at gunpoint. A case was registered under Sections 379-B and 365 of the
IPC at the Division B police station in Amritsar on January 15. The police recovered the Kia and Swift cars, a gold chain and a mobile phone from his possession.
