Sukhpal Khaira writes to Speaker, demands action against AAP’s halqa in-charge
Jalandhar, July 11
Congress MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Khaira has written to the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan asking him to take action for an alleged breach of his privilege as an elected representative by AAP’s halqa in-charge Harsimran Singh.
Khaira had laid the foundation stone for an underground pipeline in Nadala wherein he alleged that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bholath and Executive Officer, Nadala, not only organised the ceremony but were also seen standing beside Harsimran Singh, who has never contested any election and does not hold any constitutional post. Khaira said that his father Rana Ranjit Singh, who has contested elections twice from Bholath Assembly seat, had lost his security deposit on both occasions.
Congress MLA has alleged that the action of Harsimran Singh, the SDM and Executive Officer, are a direct infringement upon his rights as a third-time elected representative and former Leader of Opposition. “This also amounted to hindering discharge of official duties as an elected representative besides breach of my privilege as an MLA,” said Khaira.
The Bholath legislator had told the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan that he is a custodian of the rights, privileges and duties of all elected representatives of the Assembly and hence it was his duty and responsibility to immediately seek a report on this illegitimate and unconstitutional act of Harsimran Singh, SDM Bholath, and Executive Officer Nadala and take suitable action.
He has written that if such illegal actions of the officials and so-called “Halqa In-charge” are not prevented, it would lead to a total collapse of constitutional working in Punjab. He also called for immediate removal of the foundation stone.
