The district administration of Kapurthala made comprehensive arrangements to ensure peaceful and smooth municipal elections for the Nagar Nigam Phagwara and Nagar Panchayats of Bhulath, Begowal, Nadala, and Dhilwan. Voting will take place on December 21, from 7 am to 4 pm, with the results being announced immediately after the vote counting.

A total of 278 candidates are vying for positions in these elections, with 173 candidates contesting for the Phagwara Nagar Nigam, 22 for the Dhilwan Nagar Panchayat, 29 for Nadala, 20 for Bhulath and 34 for Begowal.

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Amit Kumar Panchal confirmed that all necessary training for polling staff were completed and security arrangements had been finalised to ensure a safe and fair election process.

For the Phagwara Nagar Nigam, 110 polling booths have been set up across the 50 wards, catering to 101,374 voters, including 53,555 males and 47,812 females.

The polling booths have been organized for the Nagar Panchayats as well, with Dhilwan having 11 booths for 6,122 voters, Begowal with 11 booths for 8,349 voters, Bhulath having 13 booths for 8,679 voters and Nadala with 11 booths for 5,766 voters.

In total, 158 polling booths will be managed by over 1,000 staff members. Each polling booth will have a team consisting of one Presiding Officer, one Alternative Presiding Officer and three Polling Officers to ensure the smooth functioning of the elections.

Deputy Commissioner Panchal urged citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, emphasising the importance of voting in large numbers to strengthen the democratic fabric of the nation.
