Jalandhar residents celebrate Independence

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. General Manager Manjul Mathur unfurled the national flag and inspected the contingents of Railway Protection Force, St John Ambulance Brigade, Schools and Bharat Scouts and Guides in the parade. GM Mathur said, “We are all fortunate to be citizens of this great nation.”
Highlighting the achievements of RCF, Mathur said many new projects had been given to the RCF this year, including manufacturing of 615 coaches under Amrit Bharat Project. Mathur said the RCF had received the prestigious Golden Peacock Award 2024 under the Railways category in the field of energy efficiency. A cultural programme was also presented at the end of the function. RCF Administrative Office, various roundabouts etc, were decorated with colourful lights.
NCC trainer promoted
Subedar Major Harbhajan Singh of 2 Punjab NCC Battalion, Jalandhar, was promoted to Honorary Captain on the 78th Independence Day for his 32 years of distinguished military services.
Honorary Capt Harbhajan Singh has imparted military training to nearly 3,000 youth in 2 Punjab NCC Battalion in the last four years. Honorary Captain Singh belongs to 7 Sikh Regiment and was born in Dasuya, Hoshiarpur. He started his journey in the armed forces on August 25, 1992 from the Sikh Regimental Centre, Ramgarh, Jharkhand. Singh was promoted at Battalion Headquarters.
Sainik School marks day
Sainik School marked India’s 78th Independence Day with unparalleled zeal and fervour. The air was thick with patriotic sentiment as Principal Group Captain Madhu Sengar unfurled the Tricolour, setting the tone for a day of reverence and celebration. Group Captain Sengar paid homage to martyrs. She said, “Our nation bows in gratitude to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in our struggle for independence.” Cadets from all houses pledged their allegiance to the nation before the Tricolour. The celebrations featured soul-stirring speeches, emotive poetry recitals, rousing band performances and a keenly contested inter-house drill competition. Narinder Kaur, Raj Kumar and Kulwant were honoured with awards at the Guru Nanak Stadium for their outstanding contributions.
Tractor march in Phagwara
Phagwara: Hundreds of farmers belonging to Bhartiya Kisan Union Doaba held a large-scale ‘Tractor March’ in Phillaur on Independence Day. The irate farmers were holding copies of the controversial farm laws which they later set on fire. A protest rally was also organised by the agitators which was addressed by farmer leaders who threatened to intensify the stir if their demands were not accepted soon.
Flag hoisted at LPU
Phagwara: Lovely Professional University celebrated the 78th Independence Day with hues of patriotism and unity. Chancellor Ashok Kumar Mittal hoisted the flag. Students, representing NCC, NSS, innovation, research, sports and cultural activities, participated in a march-past.
Dr Mittal paid homage to the soldiers who were martyred in the freedom struggle and talked about a ‘Shreshtha Bharat’ — a new India that is strong, resilient, and invincible. — OC
