Jalandhar: The girls cricket team of Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) brought laurels by clinching the gold medal in the All India Inter-NIT Cricket (Girls) Tournament held at NIT, Rourkela, recently. The team defeated NIT Surat in the finals by 14 runs in a nail-biting finish. A total of 16 teams of NITs from across the country participated in the event. Vandana Sah received the trophy for best player while Devshree Singh and Vasudha Vaid (captain) scored the highest runs in the tournament. Director Binod Kumar Kanaujia congratulated the winners. The team was welcomed to the campus by Anish Sachdeva (Dean Students Welfare), Ajay Bansal (registrar), Dilbag Singh (ICE department) and Dr GS Dhaliwal (director, sports).

Doaba College

Gems Doaba College Alumini Association organised an online seminar ‘Value of education in life’ with Lord Swraj Paul, renowned alumus-member of the House of Lords, United Kingdom. He was welcomed by Dr Pardeep Bhandari, principal, Dr Avinash Bawa and Dr Suresh Mago, event co-ordinators, faculty members and students. The principal discussed the accomplishments of Lord Swraj Paul. Lord Paul recalled his experiences in Doaba College and applauded the faculty members. He emphasised the learning milestones of his life, the journey of becoming a business tycoon, beginning from his home to Doaba College, MIT, and Harvard to becoming the chancellor of a university.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV) witnessed the presence of the star cast of the upcoming movie ‘Khidari’. Renowned Punjabi actor Kartar Cheema, along with Surbhi Jyoti and Prabh Grewal visited the KMV campus to promote their movie. They were accorded with the floral felicitations by Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi. The artistes mesmerised the audience with their songs. The principal lauded the efforts of Dr Madhumeet (head of PG Department of English), Dr Gurjot Kaur (head of Department of History), Sehajpal Singh, Manpreet Kaur and Geetika for organising the event.

The entire school came alive with the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie as students engaged in a variety of athletic events, showcasing their agility, speed, and teamwork. The day was filled with cheers, laughter, and unforgettable moments of triumph and perseverance.

Apeejay College of Fine Arts

Inter-college competitions in rangoli and poster-making were organised on the occasion of Voters Day at Apeejay College of Fine Arts by the Jalandhar administration. About 25 students from various colleges of Jalandhar participated in the competitions. The main objective of these competitions was to make the general public and students aware about voting and its importance. Principal Neerja Dhingra said casting a vote is the right of every Indian citizen. Kundan Kumar (Lyallpur Khalsa College), stood first, Amrit Sagar Aggarwal (Apeejay College of Fine Arts) stood second, Divya and Kajal stood third (BD Arya College, Jalandhar Cantt). The consolation prize was given to Vinshika Sood and Mohit Dhaliwal (CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur campus).

Innokids School

An orientation programme was organised for the parents of children seeking admission in Nursery class at Innokids of Innocent Hearts Schoolfor the year 2024-25. The in-charges of Innokids welcomed the parents and informed them about the rules and regulations of the school. Temporary ID cards were also distributed to the students. Dr Aabha Arora (published author and early years expert) at Innocent Hearts, Green Model Town; Shweta Gupta (academian and parenting coach) at Loharan; and Sharmila Nakra, deputy director, Cultural Affairs; and motivational speaker of Innocent Hearts Group at Kapurthala Road shared ‘good parenting’ tips with parents, which would be helpful in raising children. They informed the parents about the new education system, made them aware of the need of nutrients in children’s food and cleared their doubts. They also advised parents to spend quality time with their children. Executive director of the school Shally Bowry congratulated the parents for the bright future of their children and informed them that first virtual classes will be held in February and offline classes will start after a week.

Eklavya School

To enhance the skills of writing and to enrich the vocabulary of students, Eklavya School conducted word writing for UKG Class. The students made words through various activities such as make your own words with the help of letters, and complete the words by looking at pictures. Chairman JK Gupta exhorted the students to learn the importance and value of words. He appreciated the efforts of the students and wished them a bright future.

Seth Hukam Chand SD Public School

Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Sr Sec School was enthralled by a magic show organised by the Red Cross Society. The event aimed to bring joy and wonder to students of classes I to VIII. Principal Priyanka Sharma appreciated the efforts of the society and added that this initiative not only brought joy to the students but also served as a gentle reminder of the importance of kindness and humanitarian values.

State Public School

State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, organised a reading activity for Kindergarten students. The motive of the activity was to make the students aware about letters, sounds and its usage. The mentors aimed to inculcate the instinct of reading and recognition of words in the students. President Dr Narotam Singh, Dr Gagandeep Kaur (vice-president), and Savina Bahl (principal), were happy to see the students dip in the ocean of reading.
