The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), in collaboration with local MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, organised a cleanliness drive at Thapar Colony located inside JCT Mill. The initiative saw the removal of years-old garbage and the cleaning of blocked sewage pipelines with the assistance of sanitation workers from the Phagwara Municipal Corporation.

During the drive, INTUC branch head Dharmendra highlighted the severe conditions faced by the colony residents.

He noted that the accumulated garbage had become a breeding ground for poisonous insects, which often found their way into homes, creating significant health risks.

Additionally, the clogged sewage pipelines had caused recurring issues, adding to the unhygienic environment.

Concerned about the worsening situation, residents reached out to MLA Dhaliwal, who promptly dispatched Municipal Corporation workers to address the problems. The workers removed the garbage dumps and cleared the sewage pipelines, bringing much-needed relief to the colony.

The drive saw participation from several locals, including Sujit, Mohit Pasi, Davinder Singh, Pradeep (Deepa), Mohit Sharma, Vinod Pandey, Rajesh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Geeta Yadav, Mamta, Shardanand Singh, Honey and Shamsher Bharti.

The cleanliness drive has brought a renewed sense of hygiene and relief to the residents of Thapar Colony, setting an example of community and administrative cooperation in addressing public grievances.
