Int'l kabaddi player in field for the sarpanch election
A 26-year-old international kabaddi player is in the fray as a sarpanch candidate in the panchayat election at Sangojla village in Kapurthala district.
Yudhveer Singh, who is an international kabaddi player, has made his foray into the electoral battlefield. Two candidates are in the fray for the election of sarpanch in the village.
Tall muscular and dressed in casuals, Yudhveer has plunged into the fray at the insistence of other villagers. Surrounded by elderly men, who fervently support Yudhveer for the progress of their village.
The kabaddi player says if he becomes a sarpanch, he will turn the village into Chandigarh.
Yudhveer says, “I did not want to enter into the electoral battlefield but decided to do it only on the requests of village people. My first goal will be to improve the condition of the dirty sewage pond (chappar) in the village and improve the sports ground. I want the village to be clean, beautiful and progressive.”
Engaged in the election campaigning, Yudhveer is being supported by his fellow international players, who solicit votes for him going house to house in the village since morning.
The Sangojla village has 9-member panchayat out of which eight have been elected unanimously. The village will go to the polls tomorrow only to choose a member panchayat and a sarpanch.
