In Brief: Nine injured in group clash
Phagwara: Nine Persons were injured in a group clash in Kirpa Nagar on Friday night. All nine injured were admitted to the local Civil Hospital. The condition of all injured was stable. The personal enmity was said to be the cause of the clash. The police have registered a case and investigating the matter.
1 killed, four hurt in mishap
Phagwara: One motorcyclist was killed while four others sustained serious injuries when a speeding car hit two vehicles, the motorcycle and a scooter, on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Rahul Dhall of village Jagatpur-Jattan. The police have registered a case against the car driver Vishal Banga of village Gumman who escaped leaving the car behind. The police have handed over the body of the deceased to his family members after post-mortem.
Two Booked for stubble burning
Phagwara: The police have registered a case against two villagers on the charge of burning stubble in village Ucha. The accused were identified as Surjit Singh and Arwinder Singh of the village. Two more cases of stubble burning were reported from village Manak and Khawara on Friday night. No arrest has been made so far.
Man nabbed for murder bid
Phagwara: The Nakodar police have arrested a man on the charges of attempt to murder, voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons and rioting. The accused had been identified as Karan of Shankar village. Aman Sondhi of Rishi Nager had complained to the police that the accused attacked to kill him on September 10 last year at a shop in the Royal Towers market and seriously injured him. A case was registered against the accused and 12 others.
Villager held for farm fires
Phagwara: The police have arrested a villager for burning paddy stubble. The suspect had been identified as Jasveer Singh of Baaloki Khurd village. The police received a WhatsApp image of burning paddy stubble fields in Salema village and reached the spot and found paddy stubble field on fire. A case has been registered against the suspect who was released on bail. The police booked Mohindar Singh of Essewal village on a report by circle revenue patwari Gurdeep Singh.
Warning against stubble burning
Phagwara: SDM Jashanjit Singh has warned that anyone attempting to burn paddy straw will face severe consequences. Jashanjit who along with DSP Bharat Bhushan and Tehsildar Mandip Singh visited Khalwara and Dhak-Pandori said the administration will closely monitor the situation, taking action against any such incident. SDM warned that sarpanch will be responsible for any such violation.
